HM Government of Gibraltar Logo Icon  What is Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation?

Online streaming of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation CSAE is a significant threat, which has been exacerbated by the global pandemic, restrictions in travel and the improvement and accessibility of online streaming platforms.

Faster Internet speeds and advances in technology has assisted sexual offenders to adapt that ensures that they can continue committing their crimes under the cover of Darknet platforms.  Offending can take place remotely reducing the attention of law enforcement investigators and does not require travel.  Sex offenders are able to direct the abuse by requesting the abuser (which often involves the relatives of the child), to perform sexual acts.

According to the findings of the Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) Child Sexual Exploitation Environmental Scan, produced by Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre, the online streaming of CSAE is no longer an emerging trend but rather is an established reality.

Thinkyouknow is the education programme from the NCA-CEOP, a UK organisation which protects children both online and offline.
